You should
bring the following items with you to the registration desk. Forms
are available on the website. Please have all forms filled out
and ready to present upon arrival.
MENC
card
4-year
Repertoire Sheet (list selections for 2005, 2006, 2007
and this year. If your band did not attend any of those years,
indicate so on the form).
3 Sets
of scores with measures numbered. If you have a photocopied
score, you must have a letter from the publisher granting
permission to photocopy.
If you do
not have a current MENC card, take care of getting your documentation
now. If you cannot produce proof of current membership, your scores
will be held until it can be determined whether or not you are
disqualified. The chairman will not have time to take care of
this during festival.
Instrument
cases should be left on the buses. After your band has performed,
instruments should be returned to the bus; no instruments should
be brought into the auditorium.
We will provide
the following percussion equipment: bass drum, 4 timpani, concert
bells, chimes, xylophone, and gong. You should bring your own
snares, cymbals, mallets, and accessory percussion. If you are
not sure about a piece of equipment, contact me.
Judges will
be: Ricky Allgood, Arden Carson, Mike Kirby, and Bernie Hall (SR).
You will
receive a professional recording (CD) of your stage performance
along with a tape from each judge. Bands receiving a rating of
"Superior" will receive a plaque. All bands will receive a certificate
for participating.
A concession
stand WILL be available this year. We will post
a list of available items on the website a few days prior to the
event.
US Group
Photography will be taking photots of bands after the sight reading
is completed. Please have your band photographed. If you did not
pick up a flier at the business meeting, please go to the Contest
Page and look under the Middle School Documents to download and
print a flyer.
The area
reserved for judges is for judges and their assistants only.
Please impress
upon your students the importance of proper behavior in the auditorium.
Also, they should be quiet in the lobby area. No one will be allowed
to enter or leave the auditorium during performances. Please
help your students understand that when a band finishes playing,
the judges are still talking on the tapes and working to finalize
the band's evaluation; therefore, the auditorium needs to remain
quiet so they can do their work.
Parents and
other guests are not allowed in the sight reading room.
No dressing
facilities are provided. The restrooms are not adequate for changing
clothes. Please arrive on campus dressed to perform.
We must keep
the festival running on schedule. If you arrive late, you will
be expected to perform at your scheduled time whether or not you
have had an adequate warm-up. If you arrive after your scheduled
performance time, you will have to wait until the end of the day
to perform, pending approval by the judges. Put some extra
travel time in your schedule to allow for all of those unforeseen
problems that always occur when dealing with middle schoolers!
Please refer
to the District website for all of the rules pertaining to festival.
If you decide
to withdraw from the contest, please notify me as soon as possible.
It is very frustrating to have no-shows on the day of the event.
If you have
any questions or concerns, please contact me. With my schedule
during this time of year, you will probably get the quickest reply
if you use my school email (ddavis@ecps.us). If you call my school,
please do not get upset with my secretaries when they refuse to
get me out of class... remember, I'm trying to get bands prepared
for festival too! My phone numbers and email are on the Contact
Us page of the website.
